An ABO Group and RH Type EDTA Whole Blood Test is a common lab test that determines a person's blood type. The test identifies the blood group and type of Rh factor. The most common systems for classifying blood are the ABO blood group and the Rhesus (Rh) type.

The ABO/Rh testing procedure involves: Putting a sample of the cell suspension in various reagents Centrifuging at a specific speed for a specific period of time Gently shaking the tube If there is any clumping of blood cells, known as agglutination, the result for that reagent is positive.

The most common systems to classify blood are the ABO blood group in addition to the Rhesus (Rh) type. The ABO group: Two of the different antigens on the red blood cells' surface is known as antigen A and B. The ABO system is based on which type of antigen is present on the RBC.

An EDTA test is used to assess the function of your kidneys through a series of blood tests. EDTA refers to the name of the substance that you will receive by injection. EDTA contains a small amount of radioactive material. This allows it to act as a tracer which will show the kidney function.
